History De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) was created in 1990 when Extraction De Smet (now De Smet Technologies and Services) recognised the need to establish a specific entity dedicated to large projects and turnkey contracts. The new company was joined at that time by a team of sugar experts coming from the well-known Abay Engineering Company – opening therefore the way to tackle projects involving sugar and sugar derivatives from basic engineering to complete factory implementation. Since then, DSEC has successfully executed more than 40 large-scale projects, ranging from pure management operation to full turnkey. Moreover it has also performed numerous technical audits and investment evaluation studies. Due to the growing of its contracting activity, DSEC has moved in September 2004 to new offices South of Brussels.
