History De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) was created in 1990 when Extraction De Smet (now De Smet Technologies and Services) recognised the need to establish a specific entity dedicated to large projects and turnkey contracts. The new company was joined at that time by a team of sugar experts coming from the well-known Abay Engineering Company – opening therefore the way to tackle projects involving sugar and sugar derivatives from basic engineering to complete factory implementation. Since then, DSEC has successfully executed more than 40 large-scale projects, ranging from pure management operation to full turnkey. Moreover it has also performed numerous technical audits and investment evaluation studies.
