Methanol-to-Jet

Methanol-to-Jet converts methanol into jet-range hydrocarbons. As of July 2026, the pathway is certified as an Alcohol-to-Jet synthetic paraffinic kerosene under ASTM D7566 Annex A5. Eligible inputs are Renewable Methanol from bio-, e- or hybrid methanol plants.

The process for Methanol-to-Jet production generally includes:

  • Methanol reception and storage
  • Catalytic conversion of methanol to light olefins
  • Olefin separation and purification
  • Oligomerisation to jet-range olefins
  • Hydrogenation to paraffins
  • Fractionation into SAF, renewable diesel and naphtha
  • Storage and loading

DSEC supports clients in assessing Methanol-to-Jet as a downstream option at feasibility stage, combined with its Renewable Methanol activities. DSEC can also manage the integration between methanol synthesis and jet conversion, including heat recovery, hydrogen supply, utilities and Balance of Plant (BoP).
