Sugar cane Ethanol
Fermentable carbohydrates from sugar cane may be directly utilised in the form of cane juice or in conjunction with molasses from a sugar factory.
Cane juice is produced either by crushing on mill tandems or through a counter-current diffuser.
Cane processes proposed by DSEC generally include:
- Preparation
 - Extraction / clarification
 - Evaporation
 - Fermentation with standard yeast (batch or continuous)
 - Distillation
 - Rectification (if applicable)
 - Ethanol dehydration (molecular sieve)
 - Vinasses treatment
